In the past, beer used to be stored here in order to be able to cool it sufficiently over the summer.
For this purpose, the ice chambers around the cellar were filled with ice, which was broken in the Nymphenburg Canal, but also in ice ponds outside of Munich. Sometimes it was even transported by train from the Zugspitze.
Today, we offer you a unique culinary experience here deep underground.
The vaults made of raw red bricks, the rustic wooden benches and, last but not least, the huge old storage barrels form an ideal setting for unforgettable hours and have already made many a guest go into rhapsodies over it.
Once a year during the strong beer season, the old storage cellar becomes a place of pilgrimage for all Maximator friends who have longingly waited for the Augustiner brewery's smooth, dark Doppelbock after the winter.

The ventilation shafts in the old storage cellar were used to dry out the cellar, which had become damp from the melting of ice over the winter. After the frost period in March, they were closed for the summer season. Today, daylight lamps in the permanently closed shafts contribute to the unique atmosphere in the cellar's brick vaults.
